Election 2013, from the Chairman - Older Posts

It can be viewed as a blessing or a curse, but the fact is that each year in Virginia we have an election. For many years, we have had to work hard to fight back against the liberal assault on our state. We have won some and we have lost some. Hanover County has not disappointed any Republican ticket in decades and as you know, we are looked upon as a county that needs to bring out conservative voters to offset left leaning locations in other parts of Virginia.

On May 18th we nominated the strong conservative ticket of Ken Cuccinelli, E.W. Jackson and Mark Obenshain. This group of candidates believes in every aspect of our Virginia Republican creed and they need and deserve our support. On June 11th the Democrats added to their already liberal ticket by nominating State Senators Ralph Northam (Tidewater) and Mark Herring (Northern Virginia). Given the destructive policies this ticket offers to Virginians we have a great chance to duplicate the “Sweep of 2009”.

I don’t have to tell you that the press generally is not supportive of any conservative cause and will use any, what they like to call, “extreme” comments made in our candidates’ lives to discredit their ability to govern the Commonwealth of Virginia.

It will take volunteers visiting our neighbors, one neighbor at a time to clarify the candidate’s positions. It will take volunteers speaking to family, friends and co-workers to help voters understand how our conservative ticket will help bring prosperity to Virginia. In the last four years, under Republican leadership, Virginia had done very well considering the damaging policies the Obama administration has imposed upon us. We must carry the successful Republican policies into the next four years. Our ticket is committed to that very goal.

How can you help?

First, we have a Victory Headquarter located in Hanover County at the Hargrove Insurance Building at the intersection of Route 1 and Elmont Road, just north of the Virginia Center Commons area. We need volunteers to staff that location for many hours weekly. This will be the primary location for the distribution of campaign materials, walk lists and phone banking.

Second, we will need volunteers to canvass neighborhoods, ideally your own neighborhood! We know the most effective way to canvass a neighborhood is to cover your own. Your neighbors know you and they are much more willing to listen to someone they know.

Lastly, there will be rallies and other events to support throughout the campaign season. We will be sending you emails asking you to attend and also to ask your friends to attend.

I invite you to carefully consider all opportunities to help. I have attached a volunteer signup form with this letter. Please review the various ways you can help us reach victory in November.

Typically we do not have a membership meeting in July, however we have one scheduled for Thursday, July 18 at 7 pm at the Bass Pro Shops. The purpose of this meeting is to thoroughly understand our candidate’s positions on all issues. We will also discuss the best ways for us to communicate the issues, ideas on ways to answer tough questions and to brainstorm the best ideas for promoting our message.

We are fortunate to have a Victory office in Hanover this year. Staffing this office is very important. HCRC member Sandra Paulus has agreed to serve as our volunteer coordinator. Jeff Tomkowitz is our RPV campaign staff liaison at the Victory office. If you can help in any capacity please contact, me, Sandra or Jeff. Our contact information is as follows.

My email address is nsrussell29@yahoo.com, Sandra’s email address is swpaulus@comcast.net. Jeff can be reached via email at jtomkowitz@rpv.org or on his cell phone at 804-937-0479.

The Victory office will be opened 9 AM to 9 PM Monday through Saturday and 1 PM to 6 PM on Sunday. The Victory office has a Facebook page and a Twitter account. I encourage you to keep up with the activities. Look for HanoverGOPHQ on both sites.

Please commit yourselves to doing all that you can do to win on November 5. See you this week at our June meeting and again on July 18.

Thank you

Nancy Russell
